Didn't the Roman government wrote what became the modern bible? I'm sure I read, or saw on TV, they set up a government group to control the new religion that they first tried to oppress. They did this to enable them to take control in an attempt to create a unified religion, that could stand up against the pagan beliefs that us northern barbarians held, and also caused so much trouble for a weakening Roman state. The Apostle according to Magdalene, was completely edited out - she was supposedly his closest disciple who knew his stories better than anybody else. Most of the old texts were removed to create a much shorter, and quite repetitive, new testament.

The Bible has been edited and reissued more than "Is this the way to Amarillo".

But at least one of the big ones was because of Constantine who converted to Christianity and made it legal and either defacto or dejure the Roman religion. He was smart and deeply involved in the process as well. It was called the Council of Nicea.

The problem with communism is that those who get rich from it use their money to impoverish and enslave everybody. We are under the communist heel in Britain right now.

The problem with humankind is, regardless of the socioeconomic model any country lives under, ultimately the core traits of a desire for power, greed and a need to be corrupt to achieve said power will always be present in us.

Take the UK. We all have our own idea of what a utopian UK would be like. Say I could click my fingers and make it so as of midnight tonight.

How long do we think the utopia would last? Days, weeks, months, years? At some point, an individual or group would want to deviate from the agreed social construct, and not necessarily in a positive/constructive way.

This is why the planet (as in the actual planet) would be better off if humankind didn't exist. And if we are to exist, the best thing all round would be for the planet to explode in the very near future, wiping us out.

As I remember it he only got baptised at the end but that was to game the "all is forgiven" card you get.

That is not a problem of communism, it is problem of corrupt leaders. Exactly same thing is said of democracies, right, left, central of anything else.

I've just been watching a documentary I recorded on PBS Freeview channel, marking the 100th anniversary of the USSR. It's the best thing I've seen in ages. It's in three parts, but probably only about 2hrs 15 mins in total if skipping the adverts, so about my level, and with some really interesting and engaging contributors.

And if we are to exist, the best thing all round would be for the planet to explode in the very near future, wiping us out.

Yeah, I'm not a proverbial tree-hugger neither am I an environmentalist. However, purely on the specific question of would the planet be better off longer term if humankind a) remains or b) doesn't remain, it simply has to be 'b.' Anyone who thinks we are doing the actual planet any favours by being here is deluded. However, here we are, so it's a case of making the best of it. Something else we're sh1te at when it comes to collective responsibility.

I disagree. The planet doesn't care, it's just a pile of rock. Life will always carry on in some form.
The problems humans are causing only really impacts humans. It's the cause of migration and wars, two topics that have been hot topics in 2022, and will continue to shape our politics and lives.

Maybe, maybe not. Life has gone through several mass extinctions over the last 500 million years, what we see around us today is temporary.

Neither is better. The concept of better dies with us.
