so the actual amount will be a percentage off disposable income which would make the 0.7% far larger perhaps 3%off disposable income??

Never mind all that nonsense, would you rather save a dying child in this country with your contribution, or a send it abroad????

you are suggesting its one or the other it is not its both in the same way its fire brigade or national health or police or transport
its a ballance between what is there and what you can do with it

No it isn't. If the pot for foreign aid was a pot for our own people it could be given to the needy here NOT there. Nothing to do with fire brigade, police, roads, new lamposts, ramp for fat bird at no.24.

Think about it.

as the pot for foreign aid is such a small amount it would make very little difference to any situation at home
all i am saying is both in tandem are a fair and responsible compromise

I'm so annoyed. I'm off to buy a yum yum!

Buy a what?

If you like doughnuts, you have to try a Yum Yum

If you can't afford it, the RAF will be making a drop over your area tomorrow morning

Oh, so that's what that helicopter with the 3 million candle power searchlight is doing over our local council estate some nights.

Dropping vital aid supplies of doughnuts to the starving residents.

F*ck me, tell that to the parents of cancer ridden children relying on charity donations to fund drugs that are deemed too expensive.

It's shameful stuff.

what do you suggest ??
I am not suggesting anything but you seem to be implying the amount is negligible.

According to wikipedia the GDP of the UK is £1.45 trillion (million million?).

0.7% of this is £10.15 billion, ~ £28 million per day.

That is £1,268 per pensioner or £169 per person.

(A similar amount as the net contribution to the E.U.)

I hope calculations correct.

You are missing another important point here that a vast proportion of this money goes towards paying the salaries of those worthy, hey we do aid, people of dfid. What else would the country do with all those useful degree bearing people who sent supplies to Syria without a real clue to whom they were sending it to, probably ended up in the hands of those now taking over Iraq. Bet the current raft of people murdered and displaced are glad we and the u.s made the country safe for democracy, so much better than Saddam.
Will I be contributing to the latest round of charity appeals, not really when it takes over 9000 people per month to send in their , just £2 a month, for a year just to pay the salary of the chief executive of save the chi"dren, double what the prime minister gets for running the country, nice work if you can get it , but hey we do aid.

Sorry BA I think the money used for foreign aid, could (and should) be better spent here in the UK for those who need it most.
Remember too, that in these times of austerity, and government cutbacks (affecting most of us) , foreign aid was ringfenced, not cutback. I wonder how many MP's are "feeling the pinch"? (none I would think) For once, instead of trying to be the saviours of the Middle East, they should try to become the saviours of UK plc.

At the end of the day, this foreign aid they all too readily dish out, is our money. If anyone feels strongly enough about foreign aid, they are free to donate to some charitable organisation. We don't get the choice about paying taxes to these thieves in Westminster.
