British Gas - not allowed to leave old parts on site?

You don't expect to get car parts back from garage when you get it repaired so why would you with the boiler?

If you ask for them, you can get them. Some people do because there is a common practice of charging for parts that are not fitted, or replacing parts that are not defective. When you get a tyre changed, you are now charged for the disposal of the old tyre. It is not compulsory, you can keep the tyre, it's yours after all.

It's the same with plumbing. There is widespread distrust due to persistent fraudulent trade practices.

In both cases, the old parts belong to the customer who paid for them. You can put anything you like in the small print, it does not become your property unless you buy it or you are given it. The customer bought the old part and bought the new part; end of. The only reason why an old part would end up in BG packaging is if the technician left the BG packaging.

Well that depend's I bought a brand new Harley a few years back , with standard silencer's , before I took it I also paid for a stage one tune , which meant changing the silencer's , I never had the old one's back , which was o.k , untill I had to have an mot , & the silencer's they put on were stamped under neath , not for highway use , queried it with them apparently some small print , stated that u only had a month to sask for your New part's back , otherwise they keep them , probably sell em to some one else , I was ripped off :( :D

but you can ask and recieve said parts.

i couldn't give a **** about BG's policy on old parts, if the customer want some old piece of **** to keep for whatever reason, they are welcome to it, saves me carting it out to the van.

If you have a tire changed, you pay £1 to dispose of the old one, therefore you must have the option to keep it.

Looks like onetap beat me too that one.

Out of interest for those of you who troll through topics looking for the slightest thing to have a go at BG for , do you come in your pants with the excitement before during or after you start typing away .

Of course they do, they have offendergasms.

Just to make it clear, I dont like or work for BG, but they cant win either way.

In defence of BG, I simply wanted the part back so I can see for myself how it was blocked, & if appropriate take it up with the guy that flushed my system the other year. Not having a pop, not accusing.

BG are more than happy to come out, they have visited 7 times so far this year to try & get HW going. They are coming again tomorrow, so I am perhaps a little suspicous that a blocked plate was NOT the problem. But I am a helpless punter & have no way to know.

That's why we love BG.

Change all the parts that are not covered first, £800.00 for a 10 min powercleanse wtf  or the homecare is not valid.

Look out old people BG love to get their dirty hands on your life savings.

You have to feel sorry for BG at times!!

They repair a boiler get it right and not a mention after all they are the experts just doing their job.
Get it wrong and they are a load of w***ers.
They can never really pass on a boiler repair so they suggest a new boiler.

independent doesn't fancy job, or expensive parts required, then they simply suggest to customer they call BG and pass it on.

No I don't, and never have worked for BG, but it does seem they will always be hard pushed to get any positive feedback on a forum. They are, and always will be, in a loose loose situation.

Might be interesting if someone could actually post a realistic first, or reasonable time, fix.

I think one of the problems with BG is that they are large and have so much backup available but it is not used to solve problems when someone has messed up.

I was called to sort out a Puma. The BG diagnosed a failed expansion vessel and so fittted an external one.

The problem was only a blocked communcation pipe which can usually be cleared from the front.

The external EXV did not solve the problem either! The air side was supplied or pumped to 2.5 Bar and so unable to adsorb any expansion so the symptoms persisted.

Such an easy fault but they had made three visits still without solving the problem.

Of course all 980,000 of the other visits they make solve the problem without any problems. But they are not news.

I do, to check that bits have been replaced. it is good practice for garages to show you the parts removed and offer them back to you.

I Always ask for the faulty parts when I get my car reapaired. I have done it ever since I was charged £100.00 or so for a driveshaft... When I asked them what was wrong with it I was told the threads on the CV where damaged? How did that happen? I asked... Errrrrr one of the mechanics cross threaded it when he was putting the nut back on!!!
So I asked to see the "old one"... What do you know they couldnt find it !! I refused to pay for the parts that had been damaged by their guy and after about an hour they backed down...So now I always ask for the old parts ( not the old oil thogh )

Whilst reading that I was thinking of you asking for the old parts back and the service manager throwing the old oil all over your jeans!

I just noticed on one of the BG callout sheets eng has put "Low mains water pressure". If I open the filling loop it goes happily over 3 bar, is this considered "low" in the profession? Thames Water tell me that 1 is guarnateed minimum.

I would imagine he's referring to the dynamic pressure when water is flowing rather than a standing pressure.
