i have a semi concealed brown gas meter box which has recently been damaged. i believe the repair of the meter box is the house owners responsibility so looking at ways to repair. i have an upcoming smart meter installation so wondering if i was to purchase a new box and get the smart meter installer to fit. however, looking at he the inlet valve i'm not sure if this is possible as there's no way to get the box to be removed and install over the existing valve. are there other valves on the incoming supply that can isolate the gas? just checking as i don't want to waste £80 on a new box and there's no way to fit it.

You will find most smart meter fitters are trained in that and that only very unlikely he will be doing anything else for you, especially if it means more time for him.

Me in that situation I would probably use it as a chance to build a nice wooden box surround that maybe matches the slabs in some form so it all blends in.

A bit of glue and it will be fine
Possibly a bit of "something" bigger than the missing bit inside to strengthen the join but avoiding any lid contact

That's going to be an absolute sod to replace, no chance your meter monkey will be interested in helping you. They're unlikely to even carry the tools to do such a job
