Does anyone have any tips for masking/hiding brown water stains on ceilings, please??

Are you talking water marks or is the whole thing brown from nicotine/soot etc?

It will if they are water mark stains and its oil based unders..

I recently had a whole ceiling, bare unpainted artex, the bloke who had the place before must have smoked for the British Olympic team!..couldnt wash it down so I treated it with a 3:1 water bleach mix and then mixed PVA in with the first coat of matt emulsion...allowed to completely dry and then second coated...still looks good now.

I have found if no one smokes it only needs decorating ONCE.
Mind you the other half doesn`t agree.

The type of brown stain to be expected after a screw has been put through a central heating pipe ... !!!!! - nothing to do with nicotine just an embarassing, unfortunate mistake

Ahhhhhhhhhh...so now the truths coming out!

Ok no problem then...make sure its nice and dry then give it a couple of thin coats of oil based undercoat.
