Hi

Does anyone have a copy of BS 1363:1995 that they can send me, or link to. I know that its available via the library, but my local library is not open at anytime that im not working.

Im working on a HomeAutomation system and am interested in the proper regulations to see if its something that I could eventually mass produce.

Best Regards

Gangsta

Im considering it :D or at least I will once I see how tough the regs are.

I have 8 made so far, using a cnc mill (a very slow way of doing it), they house the electronics for the automation, and require 35mm deep backboxes.

If the regs are not too restrictive then I will order a batch of 1000 faceplates from china. And fit all the electronics here.

Thanks

Gangsta, can I just clarify something?

You do realise that BS1363 only applies to 230V mains plugs & sockets (aka 13A), and wouldn't cover anything like you've described?

It would only come into play if you are planning to include 13A outlets or plugs as part of your product.

Have you investigated your county library online? I can access BSI standards via the Lancashire library website, just using my library card number.

Why would it not apply, I am going to replacing the 13A sockets (fitted in my walls) with my own 13A sockets - which include my control electronics. As I see it the above standard is the main one affecting what I want to do. (if i want to make it into a product anyway)

I dont do plug in automation, with stupid adapters between my sockets and the device that im trying to control. Last house I automated I ripped out EVERY wire in it and started from scratch, with the automation built in from the start. Worked really well, apart from the re-decorating. Had to run multiple channels down the walls, in every room in the house. Glad it was a bungalow - otherwise the ceiling or floor boards would have been out too

So there you go then. Question answered. My 2nd option was the correct one.

Now you'll either have to change your working schedule so you can visit your library, or cough up and buy a copy of the standard, unless some naughty person sends you a hooky copy or download link.
