Ptfe is fine, if you can get some loctite 755 (liquid) or loctite 55 (rope/string). If using ptfe give it about 15 wraps. So long as you measure accurately then the wall plate elbows are fine and generally cheaper the pre made brackets.

they won't work, the bit that fits inside the tap tail won't fit inside those off set shower fittings
