What's the best material for use building in around back boilers? Vermiculite is suitable isn't it? I'll need to brick up a bit as well. Is there anything wrong with ordinary brick and mortar butting up against the side of the boiler?

sannesley said:It's a wrap around back boiler for buring wood and coal in an open fronted fire. In order to get at the pipes assuming it was backed up with on the back and sides with vermiculite the only way would be break the vermiculite away.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if there was a problem with the back boiler or the joints then the fireplace and surround would have to be taken out anyhow in order to get at the pipes at the side of the boiler from the front as they won't be accessible from the side?

vermiculite is the stuff you need at least 2"" don't put the brickwork in contact with the boiler
make sure you test it well before you close it up :wink
