ive wired all the new lighting and sockets for my new extension. Everything works and im all plastered and finished. I have electrical knowledge but im not an electrician to sign it off. How do i get it signed off to building regs? Do i get an electrician to check and give me a certificate or do i get the council to check it through building control?? cheers Rick.

Does any of the work involve electical work in a kitchen, a bathroom (certain areas) or new circuits?

there are 3 new circuits, -1 downstairs garage and sun room -2 upstairs 2 bedrooms and ensuite -3 and all sockets to all of these rooms. It all requires building regs as well cheers.

You should have notified the electrical work when you notified the extension. Are the BCO aware of the electrical work ?
They should come and inspect/test at their cost and 'pass' it.(if all is correct)

how do they check it? is it by taking somw switches and sockets off afterwards to test? if so then is it okay to go ahead and plaster then i can get it all checked afterwards as ive already finshed downstairs, thanks again Rick.

NO, Don't cover it over or they may insist you uncover it.
they will want to see the cable runs to make sure its the correct cable, its run in safe zones, etc. Also to ensure you have complied with all sorts of Building Regulations. (Fire, energy, electrical and others)
Also they will (should) be running full tests on the circuits to ensure compliance with wiring regulations.

Its a whole lot more than "let's switch it on and see if it works".
