Hi. I am replacing a Veritas alarm which has 8 wired zones with an Elite 64W and 8XP expander. The alarm is situated in a very cramped area so I am concerned about transferring the wires successfully.
What I was thinking was could I prewire the panel and expander with a short piece of wire on each terminal and then use a butt UY connector (I have the gel type ones that just need pliers to use) to join each existing wire or would that be a bad idea?

    Thanks
    Stu

Would not recommend that. Too many joints to check if problems with cabling.

Take the wires out one by one and wire them into the 8xp .....then you only have to connect it to the panel with the network !

That’s what I was going to do but as I mentioned, the existing alarm is in a very cramped area so my concern is getting the wires in so that they stay put while I tighten the screws. That’s why I was considering the easier way of just sticking the wires into the connector and a quick squeeze of the pliers.

Just seen bootlace ferrules which I never knew existed. Are these recommended for use in alarms as I think they would make getting the wires to stay in whilst tightening the screws a great help.

Same issue, if not crimped correctly could lead to cabling issues.
I would wire directly into terminals of expander. May be difficult due to access as you said ,but would save a lot of hassle if joints are not correct. Just take your time and have plenty of light when wiring up.
