Dear All,

I need to mount a button on outside railings. Any suggestions for how to do this reasonably unobtrusively?

I am considering fixing a box of this sort vertically on a railing:

with the cable entering the bottom with a gland, and a waterproof button something like this:

on the top. Then fix the box to the railings with U-shaped threaded brackets (what are they called?), using the holes that you can see on its flanges top and bottom. Then something neater than cable ties (?) to attach the cable to the railing.

One other thought was that I could fit a button of that sort directly into the end of a piece of black metal conduit / pipe, and somehow attach that to the railing.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Not sticking out like a sore thumb on an old black iron railing is the main consideration.

As it happens it's for a light. (Momentary switch though.) But similar could be for doorbells. Needs to be mains voltage.

Thanks.

There seems to be a good selection of different switches here
It's difficult to make a suggestion when the railings and envoironment can't be seen.

The push button I use, is not 100% water proof, where mounted next to front door, it rarely gets wet, so no problem, been using it as a door bell push for some 3 years now, on its second battery,

magnetic and has a stick on plate, but would need some protection, and it would be easy to steal, so depends if likely some one would steal it.

What is the button for?

Doesn't have to be low voltage. You could use a relay and a transformer so the PTM switch can be SELV.
