The button for flushing my cistern does not cause flushing. On unscrewing the outside cap I have been able to look inside the cistern. While I can get the water to fill up, depressing the button does nothing. I can only get the cistern to flush by manually lifting the bracket arm on which the button fits. Something seems to be missing to connect the lifting part (metal shaft - if this is the problem) so that when the button is depressed the flushing starts. I have no knowledge of plumbing so any advice re attaching the metal shaft (which is dangling free) would be most helpful. Thanks.
