im looking at buying a mk3 golf turbo diesel, is there anything to look out for when viewing? The car im looking at has done 130k miles but is cheap.

Check it had a cambelt change at around 60k miles and another one recently.
Make sure it has a genuine oil filter fitted, the cheapo pattern ones dont have a pressure bypass valve in and if run for too many miles (maybe 20k or more) they can start making oil seal leak round the engine.

They're pretty bombproof cars engine wise, as long as the oil is changed every 6k. If the gearbox has any noise in it whatsoever or is difficult to get in gear, step away.

Its worth checking out the brake discs too, if they look horribly worn it's probably been driven by someone who wanted a Gti but couldnt afford one!

Wishbone bushes, engine mounts, axle beam bushes and pretty much anything rubber on the suspension side of things are known to go. Although an easy enough fix, can be a hagling point if needed.
