Some conversations between student and teacher in our class tonight.

When testing Ring Final Conductor continuity

Teacher : Place tester between line and line, measure the value and record this as the value for phase

Student : Shouldnt this be r1?

Teacher, i dont know, should it? You tell me I havent done this for twenty years.

When Insulation resistance testing

Teacher shows us to clip croc directly to busbar and Neutral bar.

Student : Should you be doing this with RCBO's?

Teacher : Its hardly going to trip them out, this is dead testing

I did mine thru Peter Dawson associates, he's a brill guy from Cumbria, top bloke

If you have no confidence in him then you should approach the head of department and share your concerns with him/her.
You've paid money for the course, you should get a competent standard of teaching or you'll be retaking the exam.

Unfortunately I do not think that the college will deal with this kind of complaint professionally.

Several of us have already mentioned this (nothing written yet) to the HoD, the only feedback we've had so far is one of the other tutors making snide comments about people "not being happy" during his lesson.

if I hadn't waited two years and paid my money to get on this course I would have quit by now. Fortunately I know enough people and I'm good enough on the internet to be able to fill in some of the gaps myself.

Problem is what if you don't realise it's a gap / wrong - you might go away thinking what he's taught you is correct, and then either get questions wrong in the test, or worse leave things in a potentially dangerous state on a real installation somewhere.

I would be writing an official complaint to the head of department, citing specific examples to show how the teacher is getting fundamental things wrong etc...
