Is it correct you can not mix old and new cable colours.does it meam you can not mix colours in sockets and light switches.can one use old colour cable to make a new complete ring circuit but old and new colours would mix in consumer unit.please help.
On a new installation the new colour code must be used, but in an existing installation wired in the old colours you may use the new colour cable to make alterations and additions.
A warning label must be afixed to the consumers unit saying that the installation uses colour codes to two versions of BS7671 ( 16th ed regs ) its also a good idea to use the labels on any joint boxes with mixed cables.
See appendix 7 of BS7671, basically you can use colours to two versions providing you post a notice at the consumer unit warning this. In a single phase system the interface doesn't need to be marked.
