I'm putting in dual light switching in my garage. The new switch will have to go in a position that will be quite hard to find in pitch dark so I was thinking of getting a neon one. Ideally this would need 4 core + earth 1mm cable but I'm struggling to find anything that exactly matches the requirement in terms of colours and flat v flexible.

How particular do I need to be on the cable choice? Can someone recommend the best one? Or is there a better solution to what I'm trying to do? (Wireless switching seems too expensive; plus most seem to be dimmers and there's just an old-school fluorescent tube in there).

It can be done with 3 core + Earth

The neon will light whenever the main light is OFF. It will go out when the main light is ON

The neon connects to Neutral via the switched Live and the main lamp

This should work with an old-school fluorescent tube.

Genius. Thank you so much.
Saves me uprating the 16mm trunking I just put in too ;)

I think you should use a length of 10 milli SWA just to be on the safe side.
