I've been looking online for an angle grinder which cuts metal/stone and allows me to use a wire brush for removing paint from metal. Is this possible and, if so, is it easy, please?

Its actually the disc that you fix in the grinder that decides what you cut - and you can fix an appropriate wire brush in there too.
As for using an SDS drill, well I guess anything is possible if you can find a converter to fit in its chuck but it won't spin fast enough to be particularly effective.
Ideally a 115mm angle grinder will do what you need, but if you go for a wire brush accessory, just be sure it can cope with the high RPM - most don't!
Eye protection is of course vital with this machine.

Albeit very, very slowly and weighing a ton.........?

True but if its only a one off job and it saves you buying another tool then it is possible.

A grinder can be obtained for under £15.

Why bother going for 2nd best (even when its not).
