Can oil bleed into a blue plastic water pipe?

I have a blue poly water pipe that runs along side of my oil pipe to the boiler..There seems to be an oily smell when we run the cold tap. So as anyone heard of oil bleeding into blue poly?

Yes, there is a type of pipe called 'ProtectorLine' that's MDPE with an extra layer of metal under a second layer of MDPE.

I might have a bit in the van to show you, definitely have a roll in the yard.

So the oil does bleed thru the poly? I forgot to say that the oil pipe and poly pipe are in a "sleeve" and there is fuel oil lying in the sleeve.. The distance from the oil tank to the boiler must be about 18 metres...

Apparently it does. I've only ever come across it once at a house that was built in the site of an old petrol station.

Their Lead supply burst and we had to relay it with ProtectorLine because of the contamination risk.

You also need to be checking why there is fuel oil in the sleeve. If it due to a leak it needs sorting.

Yes I know that, it's the bleeding through that I am worried about...

New separate moling for the two methinks.

Yes that what I thought. The two pipes were put in together 20 years ago! So I will reroute new pipe for oil and water and keep them separate. Thanks for all your input..
