I saw a video of a guy using one for tiling on a wall and another getting sockets level in a room
First off a laser won't replace your tape measure or spirit levels or string/chalk line. There are some jobs which can't be done any better (or even as well) with a laser, such as installing door casings. What a laser can and will do is to allow you to set-out over longer distances with a great deal less hassle than you'd get using any altrnatives; think setting the level on kitchen cabinets across both sides of a galley kitchen (although you still need a level to check that the lower cabinet tops are dead level.....), or setting sockets level, or installing floor timbers , or running a picture rail round a room, or for that matter framing a new ceiling and so on.I would have use measuring tape and spirit levels in the past.
