Canon ip4200 printer

Failed to load the above software on to my win xp computer. a message comes up saying that the print spooler service has been stopped.
Following the method below, I tried to start it but got an 'error 5 message:access denied'
start>run (type) msc, then enter etc
Will be grateful for any advice. Thanks

To confirm:

You clicked START>RUN and then typed SERVICES.MSC and then got error code 5?

Following is the ccmplete process to get to error 5 message.
START>RUN. type 'service.msc' and click 'ENTER' button
'Services Local ' tag appears.
scrolled down to 'printer spool'and clicked on it
'start the service' appears, on the same frame. Clicked on it.
Then the 'error 5- access denied' message appears

This time I tried similarly for the Canon MP600 scanner/copier as well and got the same error message.
