Hi All

I have a soil pipe that comes up into the bathroom through the floor which is too far away from the wall so the close coupled wc is about 12 inches away from the wall.

Ive sorted an alternative connection to the main stack but need to bung/cap the soil pipe in the floor.

the pipe is made of clay (102mm inside diamater) and a normal plastic end cap is too big. Ive tried to dig out the pipe but no joy.

Can anyone suggest a way to cap it off/ cement it over etc?

Thanks

if your leaving an unused branch underground you should look at taking this back as close as possible to where soil pipe branchoccurs. unused soil pipes apparently make ideal nesting places for rats.

Stuff a large ball of screwed up newspaper in a plastic carrier bag into the pipe to support a strong mortar or concrete plug.

If there's a pipe collar projecting aove the floor level, trim that down flush before cementing over the pipe. You could probably use a bag of post mix or similar.
The newspaper plug should be enough to support the mortar whilst you trowel it up and until it sets, and stop you losing any bits of the trimmed off collar down the drain.

Make sure that there's no other drains running into the redundant pipe before doing the same in the inspection chamber where it joins the main drain.

I tend to use a bit of slate and break it so it rests in the collar then pile in the cement.
