Car ticking/clicking/flapping running noise

Because the clicking noise doesn't sound muffled, another source for the noise is possible from the throw out bearing. I think the bearing is worn and now not fully in contact with the clutch diaphragm spring. This causes the spring to tap on the bearing during car deceleration - the bearing is thrown towards the spring by inertia. During acceleration or when a certain forward speed is attained, the bearing is thrown back away from the spring, therefore making no noise. It's also possible that during acceleration, the diaphragm spring spreads out more by the centrifugal force. This produces just enough pressure to keep the bearing in contact, again making no more noise.

I think this guy describes the type of throw out bearing I have.
 
Gearbox rebuilds aren't as complex as one may think but getting the correct parts are.
Usually all that's needed are synchro hubs, bearings and oil seals so lots of research needed before getting stuck in!

The first step is to attain lift off for the car. I have a full blue print now but not yet started sawing wood for a 4 post jenga lift. Second step is to deal with the rust clumps of the factory exhaust studs. I am going to diamond cut/grind them. Replacement Dacromet 10.9 bolts are available from china for much more reasonable price. I could get 10 for one dealer bolt.

Here's a recorded segment of the noise in a short local shopping trip. Doesn't sound like clicking, but crunchy bearing balls. The noise is most prominent when car is decelerating before a stop. The recording expires in 24 hours.

It would be a whole lot of trouble if it's bad gearbox bearings. Another noise candidate is the center support bearing for the prop shaft. Location of the recorder is indicated in red, pointing at the clutch area. The underside image is from the internet.

Only someone with no engineering feel would say something like that. The disc lift was a concept that was abandoned because the intended goal of raising the car on one side was found to have no practical value. The concept morphed into a disc press that was demonstrated in the tyre thread.

The jenga lift concept was much older. It was designed to solve sinking on domestic asphalt. It has 10 - 20x of the lateral strength of jack stands, minimum 10x the weight capacity of jack stands, and the density to handle collapsed jacking points on the car. The latest upgrade will give it a water resistant sole so that it could stay outside for long periods. Even so, it will not be suitable for snowy conditions where source of water could rise above the sole. The jenga lift will not be demonstrated nor shown here. Sometimes, advanced concepts can be too much for people to handle.
