Hi

I had carpet fitted in our bedroom and on the stairs and landing at the weekend.

I am looking for any advice that you have regarding the fitting at the threshold between the landing and the bedroom. I have attached some pictures which show what we currently have....a large dip from each room to the door bar. As you can see, the dip is so large (around 2cm at the deepest point) that you can see the carpet on the bedroom side of the door when the door is closed and you are standing on the landing side of the door. Just to confirm, the door is not too short (it is actually a little too close to the carpet when fully open).

I have never noticed such large "ditches" between rooms in other people's houses. Is there something that the fitter could/should have done better to avoid this issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is normal, the bar is probably a standard profile, you can get raised edge profiles that lift the profile a little higher to lessen the dipping effect, it will still have a dip though.

The door is actually over cut at the threshold, that's too large a gap really BUT I would imagine the floor is uneven or the door hinges have not been fitted 'square' thus resulting in the door being tight when it opens, very very very common.

The previous carpet was fine, no issues with the gap at the threshold level or doors completely opening

It is likely that the new carpet and/or underlay are thicker than the old carpet creating the visible extra dipping. If the door has not been cut as part of the new installation then the door would have been exactly the same before but just hadn't been noticed previously.

The issue that you are seeing is an every day occurrence, most carpet shops/fitters will deal with this type of enquiry every day of the week.
