Casinos

What did I say earlier .. 'bout the card counters ?

Get the old book ...'13 against the bank' great, allegedly true, journal of a Brit who forms a team to play a complex staking game at the roulette table .. science based ... using a staking plan whilst betting the (in those days) even chances.
Yep, the management shut them out of Europe, after trying to change the rules like minimum stakes and the house slot etc .... with the aid of some rather large persons in dark suits and shades !!
Got to have mob backing, how in hell are they gonna get money back from people who owe them ... wait for the court to award £20 per week ? Pull the other !! surprising what a direct and real threat upon ones family would have on the ability to pay and to keep one's cake hole shut !! Businesses virtually do it now don't they ? by selling debts on to the collectors.
I would like to challenge the Govn to place a brilliant card counter as a punter in the casino when it arrives and monitor what happens ... Phoney B ain't had a real bet in his life .. or been among the heart ache it can cause.

Yes there are the compulsive gamblers but that shouldn't stop the govt from opening more casinos as there are a lot of well offs with more money than sense who will plough a lot of money in and if it creates new jobs in some of the unemployment blackspots in this country it can't all be bad.
Let's face it if you are one of the relatively few who can't control themselves (mainly people who have little willpower and money) then casino's or not there are loads of other places they will gamble.

It is the youngsters I am concerned about ... they are inquisitive ... therefore likely to become hooked .. just look at mobile phones .... What if we get a 'mad cow scenario' with the effects of their usage ? Who will be responsible ? The children ? The parents ? The government ? The 'strong minded' having resisted their use, but demanded their availability ?

Just as an observation, I didn't think gambling debts were legally enforcable, due to the fact you are not allowed to gamble on credit. Hence the large fellows in dark suits and shades.

I went in a casino once; having seen James Bond films I thought it would be a glamorous place to go, and that it would be brimming with stylish people in evening dress and slinky women in fabulous gowns....

It was nothing like that. It had the atmosphere of a betting shop and much the same deadbeat, scruffy clientele. Depressing.

Mrs Mottie-to-be putting her chips down on a ships casino on the way home from South Africa in 1982. Is that Lord Lucan behind her? And what’s with the woman about to drop fag ash on the table?

They knew you were coming and wanted to make you feel at home.

Amazing bit of marketing from somebody to put casinos in James Bond films the way they did.

Interesting aside, a geeky friend has been building computer programs to game online casinos, but has discovered that the casinos always cheat - the second the odds fall in favour of the customers, the casino closes the table, stops bets etc, citing some sort of abuse occurred, but it is clear that they are counting cards and ensuring the casino always wins.

Stick to the horses.
I went to a horse race once. Two horses died, in horrific ways, during the races. I subsequently found out that at least one horse dies every race day in British horse racing, so I won't be going again.
