cat or rear exhaust box ?

hi, ford escort mk5 m plate
today i noticed stringy stuff [ quite strong ] hanging from rear exhaust box which with a bit of force i pulled out
this is not the first time
question is could it be from the cat or the sportex straight through back box ?
is it ot to worry about ?

It's not from the cat as they don't have any of that in them and, they live at the front of the exhaust. It's from the rear silencer.

I agree - the cat only really contains a labyrinth of metals so any fibrous stuff will be from elsewhere.
Just check that there isn't another expansion box between the cat and the rear silencer though.

thanks for the replys
puts mind at rest its not the expensive cat breaking down then
must be somat in sportex box they use coming out
all works ok anyway and there wasn't another box in the middle
