CAT transmitter design?

I have one of these but not the external transmitter used to connect to pipes and cables to enable them to be traced.

From memory the receiver is selectable to 36 kHz or 366 kHz.

Does anyone know if the transmitter is modulated ( Pulse, AM or FM ? ).

I want to build one!
