Hi all,

Looking to install a new cctv system on a relatives house and would like some advice on whether to go ip or analog.

We reckon we need 3 cameras, 1 wide angle and 2 available to zoom. I've seen some cameras that are vari focus, 2.8-12 are the fixed variety better?

Initially thought POE was the way to go as we want to avoid having to 'make off' the connections and the use of IPxx junction boxes. We also have loads of exterior cat. 6 cable spare from another job. On other posts I've seen reference to POC and wonder if anyone can offer a comparison? Is POC widely in use and can you mix cameras and dvrs from different manufacturers?

Hikvision seems to be recommend a lot and they're in budget though not sure if the hiwatch stuff is any good? Any alternatives?

Thanks

You need to work out what they need to do once fixed up.

Zoom wont work on a vari lens unless its motorised lens without you getting up to the unit and manually adjusting it.

PTZ will move and zoom in, but these then may not be looking at other activity.
