Hi all

I'm in the very fortunate position of buying a new build with the company I work for, I want to fit CCTV at some point but will need to do it myself, I want to get the cabling in when it's being roughed out or at least put a duct from the loft down to our AV cupboard, I'm a total novice when it comes to DIY so my question really is what cable should I run from the loft down through the duct and should I be doing anything whilst the house is being built to minimise hassle when we move in?

Thanks

Run cat5 cable from where you want your devices to a single point ,loft ,under stair etc
You can put cable in galv back box on wall to connect to at a later date.
Remember to future proof if poss ?
Camera's are better off at correct height and not just under the soffet ?

Is cat5 the best to use? Any specific brand? When you say a galv box do you mean to use that as a ducting?

Make sure it's pure copper not coated ( e.g. CCA/CCS) I would also run a an 8 core alarm cable for power / it can also be used for sensor e.g. Gjd

Just bear in mind that if the cctv recorder is mounted in the obvious place, it will be a target for a thief to remove the evidence.

In my last house I wired to a central point in the loft for the recorder and this was connected to the network so I could remotely access setup/footage and it would be less likely for someone to find the recorder - or at least would take them a while to. Just a pain if you need to physically get to the recorder

And you need to bear in mind that it can get very hot in a loft in the summer. The recorder's internal cooling fan may not be sufficient.
I have a fan blowing onto my recorder, with a thermostat that switches it on above 20C.

Thanks for the info guys, I've been given the ok to do the work myself so just waiting on the house getting to roughing stage, should hopefully be quite easy as the cupboard is on an external wall so just need to drill through the kit runners and feed up to the loft. Should I run enough cable for each camera from the cupboard to each location of camera or is there some sort of splitter box I should be putting in loft and then taking a feed from that? As I have been given permission I'm now thinking is there anything else I should be looking at doing before the sheeters go in? Also, I've been looking at cat5e cable but there are loads of different types, is there a specific model I should be looking at?
