Got noticable staining on ceiling above boiler, have been concerned its not working as it should recently.

Is this cause for concern?

You have not identified the make and model.

As long as its a room sealed boiler correctly installed then there is no problem.

If you have not redecorated the room for the last 6 years then some discolouration is likely from dust deposition as a result of thermal convection currents and the charge potential of the dust particles.

Not necassarily. Is it an old boiler? If it is then the black is caused by dust being flung at the ceiling by the heat being given off by the boiler. A modern boiler shouldn't be 'leaking' heat like that so you don't get the same effect. Have you got black ceiling above your rads? if so same reason.

I assume you have it serviced annually? If not, get someone in asap to do it and confirm you black ceiling is no more serious than a pot of white emulsion. :)

Yes it is a cause for concern..turn it off NOW and get it checked by a CORGI engineer asap.

Someone has to be first!

But its not a race to be first, its a race to give the best answer!

Tony

just had the emergency people out who told me to get it checked via CORGI - i had just been concerned i wasnt well when boiler was on, and wanted it checked out.

Its switched off now

Newish boiler, Microgenus 23 MFFI, 3 years old and is serviced annually (FEB)

It was emergency people who pointed out the staining - said it could be due to fumes. Not sure how long its been there for.

Was just wondering if it was common or something to worry about

Thats a room sealed boiler so you should be ok as far as fumes indoors goes. Better to be safe than sorry though.

But when did you last paint the ceiling?!!

lol i rent the house! Think it was painted a couple of years ago

wish instructions exsisted for it!

£34,200 for a Litre of Corgi approved paint .... 25p for a brush from Asda ...... 14 Hrs Labour ....... Cheaper to knock ya hose down & rebuild

Who won then?

Agile did

He is always faster, fastest fingers on the web him

I dont aim to be the fastest but only to give the most technically correct and relevant reply.

In spite of being the first I have not succeeded because she has now called Transco and all she has managed to do is to have the boiler shut off because they are not qualified to inspect it.

She will spend a cold night with no DHW all because she would not take my advice !

I wonder if she has a landlords Gas Safety Certificate? If not she should report the dodgey landlord to the local EHO who will give him 14 days to get one!

1. Open pot of paint
2. Stir
3. Dip brush in paint
4. Rub brush on ceiling
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 as required
