Ceiling fan / light

Mornin all

I'm thinking of installing a ceiling fan / light in my living room.
In terms of the installation, do you wire in the celing fan in the same way you wire in a replacement light fitting or is there an additional power source required for the fan?

It might be obvious but i thought i'd ask anyway

Most (from B&Q etc) wire like a normal light.
