Hi everyone

I'm going to be fitting a ceiling fan in my boys room and I've let him choose all the switches and sockets he would like. He's asked for a dimmer switch on his light and I was wondering could this be done even if he is wanting a ceiling fan? I'm a decent DIYer (aren't all blokes :)) and was thinking maybe you could take the wiring from the fan light into a dimmer and wire the fan to a separate switch. Just thought I'd ask for ideas
Thanks

The solution is as you have stated removing the fan motor from the dimmer control, thus the fan and light would require to functional switches, one for fan and the dimmer for light.
You need to assess whether the lamp within the fitting is one that can be dimmed and also check that the fitting does not have an integrated transformer fitted to the lamp, as the transformer will also require to be one that can be dimmed.
If be chance, the transformer also serves the fan, then thoughts on fitting two separate transformers will need to be considered.

The much easier solution is to buy a ceiling fan/light with a remote control, with a normal switch on the wall for on/off, and the remote control is used to alter the fan speed and light level.
