HI

Sorry to bother you all but I'm having a problem with installing a ceiling light that I have been given with no instructions

MY problem is as follows

Wires coming from ceiling are
Red
Green
2 Black which are twisted together

Wires on new light are as follows
white
black

I haven't got a clue which wires to connect to the new fitting ???

Do I connect the black one to the black one? White to red ?

The light is a 4 spot halogen light...... does it connect to a transformer or something??

I don't want to short all my street!!

Any help would be most grateful

Thanks
NIck

IF the lamps are 230 volt then a transformer is not needed.

If this light fitting came from the USA then check the bulbs are 230 volt and not 110 volt. ( USA has 110 or 120 volt supply )

USA colours for appliances and portable equipment are

BLACK for the LIVE wire

WHITE for the neutral wire.

In the ceiling it is almost certain that the two blacks joined are NEUTRAL and the single RED is LIVE.

The GREEN is probably the earth wire.

If the light fitting has exposed metal parts then there should be an earth connection or wire from the fitting.

So if the assumptions above are true

light white to joined blacks.

light black to single red

earth connection to green wire.
