Trying to fit new light and forgot to take photos of old wiring. Only one red wire picking up on meter unless I increase sensitivity and then one of the black wires is picked up. New light fitting only has small junction box with one brown and one blue. Have tried multiple combinations and can only get light to work when permanent live is wired in - and switch not turned on! Old light had wiring connected to the block in second photo.

what do you mean by

what are you using do you have a multimeter
likely you have live and neutral IN on 1 of those T&E
then the other Is live back to switch and then switched live return - so 1 the reds would go together and then when you measure between the 2 blacks - it will be 0v and then when you switch the switch around 240 V - so the chances are -join the 2 reds and then use the blacks for the light
NOT 100% as who knows somethimes
did the black have any sleeve red or red tape on

I’ve added second photo. Pretty sure old light had one red to L, black to S, earth to earth and second black to N. Have tried to replicate but not working. Light only comes on when permanent red live wire is connected. So do both reds need to be connected? Pretty sure only one was when I took light off but it could have been loose.

maybe and then the red and black may have been joined , but that wont make much difference - and my other questions - show a photo of the old celing rose - EFLImpudence - showed the diagram and as i asked what are you measuring with - turn up sensitivity - do you have a multimeter
