It's a technique I occasionally use when running cables is difficult, if it makes the job easier - for a start it has meant running one cable above the ceiling and down the wall instead of two.
Has the advantage of there being a usable perm live, sw live and neutral at both the switch and light, which MAY come in handy when adding future extensions, whatever they may be.
