In a small house, can a dehumidifier work in a central location? i.e. i have a central hall, with lounge, bedrooms and kitchen area off this. I was thinking of placing one here, with meters in each room, then leaving just the door of the room that needs lowering open, closing others. Would that draw moisture out? Would allow me to buy a bigger one with a fixed drain, rather than wheeling one around with a bucket.

Extractor fan man coming too...

As long as it has a drain point, rather than just a resovoir, then it should be sufficient. If it only has a resovoir, then it's too small for the job.

its got a drain on it.

Fit the drain, and give it a go, and then get a larger one if it's not reducing the levels quickly enough.
