I don't see how anyone can be certain about placement of the pump, relative to MZVs, without knowing how many MZVs there are in the system and whether or not they're on the flow or the return.

If DHW is on gravity, and there's only one 2-port MZV, then it doesn't matter whether the direction of flow is towards the valve or away from it.

If there's one 3-port, or two 2-ports, then there still isn't enough information.

The only important facts to determine are (a) which pipe is connected to the boiler and (b) whether it's the flow or return. Only carctol can provide this information - no amount of bickering will yield the answer.

Well, I'm sorry if I do that. It's certainly not my intention. And I'm well aware of my own imperfections, believe me.

However I do take exception to people being abusive or derisive when someone is doing their level best to make a useful contribution to a discussion, even if it seems pedantic to others.

Only yesterday I saw an old Tower 2-port MZV on the outlet from a cylinder on a gravity circuit.

Position of the valve tells you nothing.
