I have a feeling that this question may of been asked before. Can any of the experienced guys recommend a suitable Hw and Ch setup for a 3 bedroom detached home. The current system is about shot and requires total replacement. I will be employing someone to undertake the work for me, so i'm interested in what would make a suitable system and what are the reliable brands of boilers. I'm going to spend a decent amount to get the job done properly and want eveything to be spot on.

Any suggestions will be great,

Cheers,

Paul

ooh you've opened the can of worms!!

as far as a good system in my opinion
you should go for:

reasonable quality rads with trv's
towel rail in bathroom
unvented indirect cylinder (twin coil if you can afford it, so you can add solar later)
mid position or 2 zone valves + plus the zone valve for unvented cylinder, again if you wanted to you could seperate upstairs and downstairs into different zones.
a 22mm bypass valve

boilers:
Atag, and Broag seem to be popular on here, we use Vaillant and are happy with them, used Worcester Bosch a few times and again been happy with them.

Agree with the above, apart from I would never fit a Worcester.

Vaillant are good boilers, but the company and back up are absolute poo :x

Search the forum on this subject; it will keep you entertained the whole of the weekend.

A quality boiler with a quality unvented cylinder, fed by a suitable mains of at least 22 mm all the way back to the street valve will work a treat.
Unfortunately, the mains are rarely up to spec and with the correctional work for that, it will be double the price of a large combi.

In my humble opinion, vaillant used to be a top brand, but these days they have incorporated gloworm, saunier duval and I believe even heatline, and the build quality seems to have gone down under influence of this.
Their after-sales is appalling, I recently has a customer who paid for a repair on one of these boilers. When I pointed out that they had replaced some parts but did not solve the problem, they refused to come back as the repair was only guaranteed for 3 months.

They seem to plan following baxi/potterton, changing from what was once topnotch, to a hopeless mess by merging/absorbing other brands.
