CHALLENGER AP28 ALARM KEEPS GOING OFF

HI

Our house has a Challenger AP28 intruder alarm. A couple of times recently the alarm has gone off for no reason and it doesn't go off when we enter the code. After pressing several keys we finally manged to get it to be silent but now the alarm cannot be set?? Any ideas as to why the user code didn't stop the alarm? Our neighbours are not impressed.

Ever replaced the control panel battery?

Thanks for replying and no I've never replaced the battery.

Stupid question but is the control panel where you put the code in? If so I can't see where a battery could go. We also have 2 panels so would I need to replace both?
