Changing back to standard light switch

At the switch in the your original Timeguard picture, if you look at the taped up wires, you have a twin cable with red and black, and a cable with just a red.

To confirm, is the single red and the black from the twin cable joined together?

If so, on one side of your new 2 gang switch, the single red goes to common, and the red and black from the twin cable go to the remaining terminals, probably marked up as L1 and L2.

Markings vary.

On the other side of your new 2 gang switch, for the Timeguard, the red goes in the common, and the black in L1.
Single red and black from twin are joined

I'm thinking I will go and buy a double switch and try this later

Afternoon all, just tried to wire it as discussed earlier (the same as the other switch that controls the hallway light. Well, first i connected the right hand side as shown and the switch worked the hallway light, but the other hallway switch didnt work. i then connected the left hand side as well and when i switched it on both the outside light and the hallway came on. For reference the red and black for each side are from the same cable and the common wire is the old red marked switch. the red in the left had switch was the wire that was taped up on its own.

Looking for advice on which wire(s) to change over :)

You have copied the other switch 2 gang switch exactly, which is the wrong thing to do. I didn't think you were going to copy the other switch as directly as that. Thought it was just the hall 2 way bit you were stuck on.
There SHOULDN'T be a link wire for a start.
Remove the link.
Observe that the 2 gang switch consists of two switches. Each switch has a Common, an L1, and an L2. (Markings can vary.)
The wires for the former Timeguard thingy are RED into Common, BLACK into L1.
The wires for the hall 2 way are SINGLE RED into Common, twin cable RED into L1, twin cable BLACK into L1. L2 on this side of the switch will remain empty.
In case of confusion, do NOT fit that link wire.

Read this above.
And get rid of that link wire.
