Just removing the old kitchen for a replacement and noticed that some of the cables have been run from the box locations above the worktop to below it by what looks like drilling a 20mm odd hole down behind the plaster from the top and another one up from the bottom. The cable has then been fed down through the hole and clipped to the wall behind the units before running along to the next position in the same way.

Is there anything dangerous about this method of routing or am I ok to leave it well alone?

it is perfectly acceptable to clip cables behind the kitchen units, however make sure where the appliances pull out the cables have mechanical protected by the use of plastic trunking to prevent damage.
