hi ,would it be advisable to put the socket to feed a chimney hood behind the steel hood so its not seen ,or would it be better just under the coving to the left of the hood on the outside ,cheers

I'd use an FCU and put it somewhere where it can be accessed. Don't hide it behind the appliance.

would that be for access purposes or would the sh*t and grease cause problems ,as it does look neater hidden but is there a safewty issue ,cheers

Both.

If you cannot access the switch:
1) it cannot be used as a form of isolation. (May have to turn the ring off to fit new filters/bulbs)
2) How would you change a blown fuse?

You need to consider environmental conditions. Grease build up might increase the fire risk.

Also bear in mind if you conceal the cable in the wall it will need to be run in a permitted route or protected.

:D if fitting an fcu external from the hood does the flex from the hood just get chased in the wall to the fcu?

or is some t+e run from the fcu to a joint behind?

does a stainless steel chimney have to be earthed ? especially if there are some kind of joints behind.

Also when is it appropriate to use flex and when t+e ie through joists?Ive asked this before but no reply

Thanks
