China threatening

Nothing made in China in my house

How are you accessing this forum?

And in any event what has that got to do with this Taiwan caper any way ??
Quite a lot actually...

The US and Taiwan are talking about upping microchip production together to reduce reliance on China...

Why that couldn't have been done over the phone is a mystery though , as the visit is a perfect opportunity for China to sabre rattle!

More USA's reliance on semiconductors from Taiwan. China imports them as well. Then the west and there are other far east suppliers.

You can see that move away is a touch exaggerated.

Biden's solution to getting these chips produced in the US sounded nice and "simple" done a dusted. Then the hang on a min items start crooping up in the news.

Such as China's buying up of much of the world's precious metal/mineral supplies perchance?

Chile is the next country to be fought over commercially.

This gives a fair idea of semiconductor exports.
Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of electronic circuit components during 2021.
  1. Hong Kong: US$211.3 billion (20.8% of exported electronic circuit components)
  2. Taiwan: $155.9 billion (15.4%)
  3. China: $139.8 billion (13.8%)
  4. Singapore: $112.6 billion (11.1%)
  5. South Korea: $109.3 billion (10.8%)
  6. Malaysia: $59.6 billion (5.9%)
  7. United States: $52.8 billion (5.2%)
  8. Japan: $34 billion (3.4%)
  9. Vietnam: $32.7 billion (3.2%)
  10. Philippines: $24.1 billion (2.4%)
  11. Germany: $15.9 billion (1.6%)
  12. Netherlands: $13.5 billion (1.3%)
  13. Ireland: $11.1 billion (1.1%)
  14. Thailand: $8.4 billion (0.8%)
  15. France: $7.5 billion (0.7%)

There will be a war out there with China in the next 10 years

Which will be far more serious
Than this ukraine caper

Interesting. I wonder how much of those big numbers are made up from vast production of relatively low tech stuff. HK would benefit on that metric.
OTOH France for example is technically advanced though they don't make so much.
It depends how you measure things.

I've got to know a guy from HK who came out recently when the UK offered visas.
He works in telecomms G5 hard/software. One of the reasons he got out is what he saw of China's determination and progress in access to, and control of, every aspect of everyone's life. He says "never trust them with anything".
We shouldn't allow this sort of thing: https://www.theguardian.com/busines...quires-uks-largest-semiconductor-manufacturer

(No relevance at all but while out for a run he had a heart attack out of the blue (he's 45 ish). He says the NHS is wonderful, even though he got covid while in hospital.)

Well what happened was that The Russians invaded the Ukraine

Although technically (?) the Russians had already invaded the Ukraine in 2014

In 2022 the Russians already occupying or in part of the Ukraine put there Russian uniforms on

As for how it’s worked out It sort of went pear shaped for the Russians ( to an extent)

Not quite according to plan ?
