chip board in bathroom

is it ok to use chip board floor in bathroom floor as ply seems expensive and i can get chipboard for free?? they use it new build houses.....dont they??

the simple answer is YES you can use it to tile over, but its NOT the correct way of doing it. Ply, Backerboards, thats the correct way

they use it in new houses as its cheaper than using the same thickness ply, they dont use it so buyers have an easy time in getting there floor tiled, its just cheaper and more convenient for the builders
 
dont tile over chipboard directly...either overboard or lift and replace with wbp ply 22mm primed underside and edges.
