Can anyone tell me the easiest way of taking up chipboard (for the purposes of laying new pipework) in my bathroom. Is a circular saw with adjustable blade depth the easiest option?

Is it me or does everyone else hate the stuff? Once removed is it possible to reuse the cut sections or should this be replaced? (I'm laying lino floor tiles).

Cheers

Yes, make sure the the saw blade depth is approx 1mm less than the thickness of the chipboard to protect any wire or pipe underneath, then prise it out with a chisel or screwdriver. To put the off-cut back in,you will need to build a frame round the edge of the flooring.Approx 3"x1" underneath halfway screw and glue, then the off-cut resting on it.
As for laying lino floor tiles, best to read up the manufacter instruction,I've seen people use hardboard down first (not sure why).

Thanks Masona,

One question I have is..........

If I cut along the joist (using your method of 1mm less than the depth of the chipboard) would I need to use a frame section?

Do you know of any other tools as quick or easy as a circular saw, I tried a rotozip but it just couldn't cope with the board.

no since the joist will suppot it, but how will you know where the joists are (unless you can see the fixings, but there is no g'tee they fixed to each joist)

Circular saw is best since it can have its depth adjusted. you could always use a floor board saw, but once you have a circular saw its amazing what else you can use it on, and you will wonder how you ever did with out it.

A jigsaw will cut throuugh all pipes and cables so dont think of using one for the floor boards

If you don't support it,you might find the off-cut board will have a see-saw movement effect then eventfully have hairline crack on the vinyl floor tiles.
