But when your bins are not collected, you will be furious? I suppose?

Where are all these parents coming from, furious. grr my kids miss a days education, and I have no daycare....WTF do they do in the summer holidays, or the school holidays? Presumably in the school holidays, these parents just leave their kids at home to forage for themselves?

And the other times of the year, when a school is turned over to a voting station. and the kids have a day off, I never saw an angry parent, grrr...I can't possibly go to work now, I have to care for my child now.....no school..NONE of that...or school holidays....Arggghh! I've got to put up with my child during 6 weeks of holiday...argh..I'm missing work because of this, I never saw this coming!

What do parents DO when the school holidays happen? Or is it only the Telegraph readers that care?

Or are all parents mental for a day? My precious can't attend school for a day...what will we do??? How will we cope....

Daily Mail blunderers again.

I wonder how many stood on the line, placard in hand to, say, how many went shopping / played golf, etc - don't know whether it is considered "wrong" or bad form, but it seems a bit hollow to use the day to not make your point more explicitly, rather than implicitly by not being there

The trouble is, if there are 20 or more manning a picket line the police can and often do (without good reason) use special powers to disperse them. Hope that answers your query.

Your ;)

On MickyMoody's point, us parents have organised specialised groups which offer holiday cover for the weeks we cannot take off work, so we don't leave them home alone as he puts it.

When a strike/illness/whatever happens and forces a day without school or care then we either have to beg for an emergency day off from our employer, take time off if we are self-employed (which would be unpaid) or just run around trying to get someone to help.

But then he wouldn't know about that neither having offspring or a job.
