Now white spirit is quite safe considering what a potent solvent it is. However it smells bloody awful and I want rid of it (it's all over my floor). Any better tips than a good old wash with washing up liquid and a mop?

It and the smell will evaporate.
I'll set up a grill and a couple of stakes while we're at it.
Just keep the house ventilated for awhile, the smell with go and the solution evaporate.
