Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help. I'm currently attempting to make my self a two tier desk similar to the one in this picture:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XGRz6uWGK3I/RnVLeRGQqZI/AAAAAAAABHI/sQ_IgE03qk8/s400/1.jpg

The only difference being that mine will have a solid line of wood vertically across the width of the back, supporting the shelf (my computer is heavy).

What I'm wondering is where to get the wood that I need, first I thought I could pick up a couple of these:

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90071168/

as that's the finish and rough dimensions I'm after, but I noticed they are filled with paper, so I don't really want to be drilling into them from all angles.

Could anyone point me in the right direction to get a couple of pieces similar to that but solid wood?

Thanks very much,

Nick

go to an auction and buy an old righting desk something that has been around at least 50 years and will still be here in another 50

I made mine from a sheet of 18mm oak block-board , but you could use any sheet material, very simple to make and if you are not very skilled you can buy 4 ready made legs from B&Q to make assembly quicker.
