Cold shower

I have a Bristan Artimus thermostatic shower which will not get hot. I have removed debris from the hot and cold filters, no improvement. I have taken out the cartridge that regulates the temperature, this too had a build up of deposits from hard water, washed in vinegar/water solution, replaced still not working.The only other fault I can see is the three rubber seals are a little 'sloppy' could this be the answer? I have a good head of water from a gravity system, which is running well from both hot and cold. Need to fix, too many things breaking around the house, cash running low! Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Softus,
I did call them, and they would replace should it be faulty, change the cartridge, but only if I offer them a paid reciept. Which I gave to the plumber when fitting out the whole bathroom. Do you feel the cartridge is the cause of the problem? I am seven miles from Bristan products HQ worth a visit?

More help please. Have a Y plan gravity pump system, wish to change to a combi system. bluntly, do I need to get rid of all the pipe work in the loft? I would be repalcing the present boiler in the kitchen, removing the old unit.
I am considering 'cutting all off' that is in the loft. what advise can you offer before I start this project? My take on this is that all needs to be removed from the loft, capped and left, apart from the shower unit, which Will be taken to the combi, cheers.

Leaving aside the combi installation, which I (personally) can't advise you on, it's straighforward:

Cold mains supply
Remove any pipework that isn't used, i.e. leave behind nothing that water isn't passing through. One of the risks in not doing this is Legionella growth.

Cisterns
Empty all obsolete cisterns and tanks. Many plumbers consider it good practise to remove them, but I've seen plenty where they haven't bothered.

Other pipework
Same as cisterns, but generally easier to remove. Again, some don't bother.

Er, it wouldn't really help I suspect, because the only pipework you need to retain is for the shower, if it goes "up and over".

Ineed it does. with no disrespect to the Scotts. we have 'bag pipe plumbing' in the lof space, which needs to go! cheers

Cut out as much old copper as you can. Get about £2/kilo at scrap yard

Make sure you don't leave any dead legs in cold mainsor hot water circuits.
