Simple question; can I mix compression and welded waste pipe fittings? Are the pipe diameters the same? Some of the items (on Screwfix say) are marked as not suitable for use with one or other type.
Yes and no. The sizes are different so you can't fit a weld pipe into a compression joint of vice versa, but you can have a mixture of both in the same installation by using connectors that have weld at one end and compression or pushfit at the other (compression and pushfit being the same size). Go to your local diy shed and look at the waste pipes. You will find 2 racks for each size e.g. 32mm will be in 2 racks and the pipes them selves will be marked appropriately.
Hang on, compression fittings are designed to fit any size waste pipe of the right nominal size. So eg for 1 1/2", 40mm, 42mm, any of them will be fine.
You can't weld pipe designed for push-fit.
