Concrete block wall and coping stones

I have a concrete block wall where the coping stones have come away from the mortar and I'm looking to fix it. I avoided a power tool to start and instead started chipping away at the mortar with a hammer and chisel, but it's really stuck to the blocks and they're breaking away along with the mortar.

I'm looking for some suggestions as to how I go about getting this mortar off so I can put a fresh layer on to reattach the coping stones. I saw a video of someone cutting out a brick with a reciprocating saw which seems like one way to do it, but if anyone has a better suggestion please let me know.

Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me! That looks like it might just fit the bill. Cheers!
